This tracheostomy speaking valve is a one-way valve designed to fit onto the 15 mm connector of a tracheostomy tube. It opens during inspiration to allow air into the airway, and closes during expiration so that exhaled air is directed up through the vocal folds, enabling the patient to produce voice. The valve is reusable and is supplied individually packed.
Key Features:
One-way valve opens during inspiration and closes during expiration
Directs exhaled air through the vocal folds to enable speech
Fits the standard 15 mm connector of tracheostomy tubes
Low-profile design for patient comfort
Reusable and cleanable
Individually packed
Applications:
Speech rehabilitation for tracheostomised patients
Tracheostomy care in hospital, rehabilitation and home settings
Assessment of swallowing and airway function by trained clinicians
Weaning and rehabilitation programmes
Important Notes:
The tracheostomy tube cuff must be fully deflated before the speaking valve is used. Using the valve with an inflated cuff prevents exhalation and may cause serious harm.
Use only after assessment by a clinician trained in tracheostomy management.
Do not use in patients who are unconscious, unable to tolerate cuff deflation, or who have severe upper airway obstruction.
Do not use with foam-cuffed tracheostomy tubes.
Monitor the patient for respiratory distress during use and remove the valve immediately if distress occurs.
Clean the valve according to the instructions for use. Do not use if the valve is damaged or does not function correctly.
This device is intended to support speech. It is not a ventilator component.
This valve is intended for patients with a tracheostomy and an intact larynx. It is not suitable for patients who have undergone total laryngectomy.
